FAQs
What is Coaching
In essence, coaching is an investment in you and your growth. It’s about giving you the space, support, and strategies to be the best possible you. It will challenge your thinking and spark new ideas that will propel you towards your goals.
How does coaching work?
- Initial consultation: This helps us to establish a rapport as we explore your goals and expectations, and ensure we are a good match for working together.
- Safe space: I will always ensure a safe and confidential space for open and honest conversations.
- Powerful questions: Rather than giving you answers, my approach is to ask direct and probing questions that challenge your assumptions – sparking new ideas and encouraging self-reflection.
- Action planning: I will help you to gain more clarity, build confidence in yourself, and take solid steps towards your goals.
When should I use a coach?
It can be tricky to know when to seek outside help to determine what you want to achieve, where to start, and how you’ll get there.
So, here are some signs that you might be ready to benefit from coaching:
- You feel stuck or frustrated in your personal or professional life.
- You have ambitious goals you’d like to achieve, but don’t know where to start.
- You’re facing challenges or navigating a transition you’re struggling to overcome.
- You’re open to feedback and looking for ways to improve yourself.
How do I choose the right coach for me?
- Be clear on your needs and goals: Before you reach out to a coach, reflect on what you want to get out of the relationship. Then it will be easier to find a coach with the expertise and experience to support you.
- Do a little research: To achieve your goals, it’s essential to work with a coach who has the relevant experience for you, and is certified by an accredited coaching organisation, like the International Coaching Federation (ICF).
- Don’t be afraid to reach out: Most coaches offer free initial consultations. This is a perfect opportunity to get to know the coach, ask questions about their approach, assess their communication style and whether you feel a good connection.
Remember, the right coach is someone you feel comfortable with and trust.
How long is the coaching journey?
This is something we’ll figure out together. The frequency and duration of coaching sessions can range from a few months to a year, with sessions either structured or open-ended.
Is coaching confidential?
Absolutely. I follow the ethical guidelines set by the International Coaching Federation (ICF). This means that any information you share with me during our coaching sessions will remain confidential and will not be disclosed without your explicit permission.
However, there are some exceptions to this rule. If there is an imminent or likely risk of harm to yourself or others, I may have to break confidentiality. But, before we begin our coaching journey, we’ll both sign a coaching agreement that outlines these confidentiality boundaries in more detail.
